CLEP is a widely accepted credit-by-examination program. There are over 30 different examinations which allow students to demonstrate knowledge in a wide range of subjects. This knowledge may have come from formal education, job experience, or through independent reading, observation or study.

- CLEP Exams are administered at Temple by appointment only. Temple is an "open" testing center -- anyone who is properly registered may test here. It is critical, however, that persons considering taking a CLEP test first gather all relevant information about their higher education institution's CLEP credit-granting policies. Policies vary among institutions concerning the CLEP examinations that are acceptable for credit.
- Registration to take the CLEP test at Temple University is a two-step process:

How Temple accepts CLEP credits
- Temple University students must determine which CLEP examinations are acceptable for their purposes.
- Temple University students who are considering a CLEP exam should consult the Undergraduate Bulletin for current credit-granting policies and also Temple's Credit for Prior Learning webpage for policies and equivalency charts.

The HiSET® High School Equivalency Test is an alternative to a United States high school diploma. Obtaining this degree offers better chances of furthering your education as well as more job opportunities. The Millers Analogy Test (MAT) is a high-level mental ability test where problems are stated as analogies and is accepted for admission to a variety of graduate programs. Fluency in the English language, a broad knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts, and the ability to reason out relationships may contribute to performance on the MAT.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) assesses the knowledge of the English language of ESL students looking to enroll in primarily English universities.

Temple offers proctoring services (also known as Distance Learning) for individuals that need to take a proctored test for another university, a company, or an agency. Services are available by appointment only and are only administered at our Main Campus. Temple will proctor exams at arranged times Monday through Friday, beginning as early as 8:30 a.m. and ending by 4:30 p.m.
Registration Information
To schedule an appointment, send an email to mytest@temple.edu at least two weeks in advance. Temple will coordinate with the individual to determine the necessary information about the exam including:
- The length of time needed to complete the exam.
- The preferred date and time of the candidate’s appointment. Please note while we strive to accommodate preferred exam dates/times, appointments are contingent upon availability.
- After confirming the appointment, the candidate will receive specific information and instructions regarding:
- The reporting location
- How to register to take the exam at Temple University
- The mailing address to send the exam
- Methods of returning the exam. Please note that some institutions require the exam to be mailed back in a prepaid envelope. It is important to note that Temple will not provide the envelope or postage. Fees are based upon the length of the exam and are paid online by either credit or debit card after our department confirms your appointment time. The administration fee is $55.00 per session (up to 4 hours of testing time). For longer sessions, there is an additional $15 charge for each hour beyond the standard 4-hour session.
